While watching people make, or lose, tons of money in real life can create mixed feelings, it’s almost always a blast when done on film. The stakes are high, the danger present, the actors giving it their all. Some of the world’s premier directors have tackled investing, and while there are dozens of can’t-miss flicks, these three are all gains, no losses. 1) Wolf of Wall Street A nearly three-hour mafia-esque epic directed by none other than Martin Scorsese. Using the skills he honed on Goodfellas and Casino, Scorsese turns Leonardo Dicaprio into Jordan Belfort, a true wild-man with an eye for making cash. What makes this movie particularly great, beyond the joy of watching it, is how deeply it implicates the viewer: the joy of watching is the same as getting greedy, just like the main characters. 2) Wall Street “Greed is good” is one of Hollywood’s most iconic lines delivered by one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, Michael Douglas. A look at the roaring 80s on Wall Street, this sharply dressed film is as iconic as they come. A war of great minds, backstabbing, and $5000 suits—what more could you want? 3) Trading Places Looking for something a little lighter? Check out this Eddie Murphy vehicle, which repaints the classic prince and the pauper story as a Wall Street inversion. One of Murphy’s funniest, the movie smartly uses the world of investing as a backdrop for nonstop laughs. What would be your top 3?
